I was watching a video on YouTube from a creator I like, and suddenly I felt envious.

I suddenly started thinking: her videos are educational talking-head videos similar to mine, but she gets hundreds of thousands of views per video, while my videos get around a thousand views per video.

And luckily, my rational mind quickly took over, and I opened her channel page and switched to her oldest video. Her oldest video was from 10 years ago, while my oldest video is from 2 years ago.

And I laughed at myself, because for a minute I forgot something I understood long ago, which is that I have to walk enough steps to reach a certain destination.

This is 100% relevant to you reading this.

I am sure if you are ambitious, there is someone who inspires you, and you would love to get to that person’s level. The only problem is, that person probably had to work for years, spend thousands of hours, overcome shiny object syndrome, and endure the mind-numbing, boring stuff before they got there.

But since you can’t see all the steps they took, you get frustrated when you can’t get there with 5% of their input.

And YouTube makes this worse, because all you have to do is check YouTube and you will find videos that promise to show you how to get that thing in a few days.

Unfortunately, taking that number of steps is non-negotiable. If you are to get to that level, you have to go through the process, and the moment you start looking for shortcuts is the moment your progress will start to slow down.

This is something I learned after several years in the online entrepreneurship world: you can’t skip the years and expect the results.

And if you know you are taking those steps every day, then you’re not behind. You’re just early in the process.

Cheers 🥂
