No matter how much you want something, remember that you can never be 100% certain it will be good for you.

Around 2014, I came very close to joining the Nigerian Immigration Service. At that time, it was what I wanted more than anything, and I had no doubt that it was the best path for me.

I ended up not getting the job, and that turned out to be a gift. Because if I had gotten it, my life would look completely different today.

That experience, along with several others over the years, helped me understand that you can never truly know what is best for you without seeing the full picture and where other alternatives might lead. That realization has become an important compass in my life’s journey.

Let me share something that can really help you in your pursuit of a better life.

Ask yourself: What do you really want?

If your answer is “to make a lot of money,” ask yourself why. What would money actually allow you to achieve? After all, no one makes money just to lock it away in a vault and admire it.

If you say you want a nice car or a beautiful house, ask yourself again: Why? What would having those things actually give you?

If you do this little exercise honestly, you will likely discover that what you truly want at the end of your life is to be able to look back and say, “I lived a good life.” Because ultimately, that is what most of us are truly after.

How do we achieve that? I don’t know, but I believe that recognizing this as the goal gives you a powerful compass for your decisions.

Throughout history, there have been people who made a lot of money but lacked peace. They ended up successful financially, but were unable to live with themselves.

When “living a good life” becomes your goal, you naturally try to make each day better. You strive to improve yourself, be a better person, listen to your conscience, and act with integrity.

And when you really want something but don’t get it, you can accept that maybe it wasn’t the best path after all, and that other opportunities may lead you to an even better place.

That is why the only standard I hold myself to is: “doing my best in every situation.” Whatever the outcome, I can be at peace with it.

Wake up every day with the goal of making the day better. That’s what I felt like sharing today 🙂

Cheers 🥂

خَيْرُكُمْ خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِهِ، وَأَنَا خَيْرُكُمْ لِأَهْلِي

Reported by At-Tirmidhi (Hadith 3895)
