What would you find if you search “How to make money online” on YouTube?

The first thing that most people do (including me) when they decide they want to start making money online is go to YouTube or Google and start searching for THE keyword: How to make money online.

I wonder what you would find if you searched today? Will the information you find actually help you get started and make money online?

To get an answer to my question, I went to YouTube in an incognito browser window, so that I would see search results not influenced by my YouTube watch history. And I searched for “How to make money online.”

The videos that come up in the search results are the ones a total beginner would get when they need help learning about online entrepreneurship.

After watching the first 3 videos in the search results, I was left with mixed emotions, somewhere between disappointment and sadness for the people who do that search in need of helpful information.

Video #1

The first video I watched teaches how you can create a Facebook page with the name of a well-known celebrity, and when that celebrity goes live on TikTok, you record their live session and post it on your Facebook page. The strategy is to post a lot of this celebrity’s content on your page until you reach the Facebook monetization requirements, then monetize your page and start making money.

The first problem is: this method violates Facebook’s Original Content Policy, and if you follow this method, there is no way you’ll get approved for Facebook Partner Monetization.

Not to mention, the content is not yours. Just because you screen record something doesn’t make it yours. So the videos will most likely get flagged and deleted.

Video #2

The second video I watched promised to teach a “Lazy way to make $250 per day.”

So, I thought, why not? I’d love to make an extra $250 a day 😉, so I watched the video.

Oh, and the video promised you can do it without spending any money!

The method that was taught in the video is to use an AI tool to create an online store by signing up for Shopify’s $1 per month trial.

Then, you create a Shopify store with dropshipping products and start “selling” the products to customers. The AI tool automatically adds the products to your store using a 30-day free trial.

The first problem with this method is: the video claimed you can do this without spending any money. which is not true because they failed to mention you’ll need to buy a domain name. Nobody will spend money on a website that has an address like myshopify.randomnumbers.

Another thing is, after 30 days, you’ll have to start paying for the subscription to the tool that adds the products to your store.

And the worst part about this video is, the person who made the video knows clearly, with 100% certainty, that you cannot just create a dropshipping store and start making sales without running paid ads, unless you already have a large number of followers who trust you and are interested in what you’re selling. So clearly not for beginners.

After watching the video to the end, I have no doubt the person who made it knows it’s not going to work.

This is NOT a “lazy way to make $250 per day.” I’ll go as far as saying you’ll make $0 if you follow that advice.

Video #3

The last video I watched started talking about sharing a link with 2 of your friends, and I immediately clicked off.

This experience made it obvious to me, if you have 0 experience and you go to YouTube to search for “How to make money online”, you will get misled into wasting your time watching useless content, signing up for a bunch of “free trials” that will end up tricking you into making payments, thinking “I’m very close…”, “I just need one more month…”

This is why it is very important to write this in your mind: If it sounds too good to be true, it is probably not true!

If someone claims to teach you how to make money very fast or instantly without working hard, they are most probably not trying to help you, and you are most probably not going to make the money. Because in my experience, anything that has value is not easy, and it takes time.

Know who to listen to.

Stop chasing get-rich-quick, even if the person teaching it says it’s not a get-rich-quick scheme. Because most people who promise a get-rich-quick scheme start by saying: “This is not a get-rich-quick scheme.”

If you truly want to make money online, be willing to go through the learning process, be willing to work hard, and stop listening to anyone who tries to distract you from your target.

Cheers🥂
